Aids to Aging Workforce
|
There are many physically demanding jobs which are very hard for older people and
many younger people do not want that type of work. We are working on robots which can carry heavy
loads and can be used to transport materials for the workers. It can follow a designated path marked
with distinctive markers or it can follow a person wearing a safety vest with a specific color or
marking. In either case, the robot takes care of the transporting thus freeing the worker from this
heavy task.
Similarly, a robot is being developed to assist farmers in going from tree to tree
to transport fruit as it is being picked from the trees. Using a similar means of navigation as the
construction robot, the robot can move autonomously from tree to tree while the farmer collects the
fruit, thus easing his burden of having to carry heavy baskets of fruit.
